Encropesis

So, Rhiannon has given herself encropresis. You can read about it here or see what the Mayo clinic has to say about it here. I have written about it before and I thought we were getting a handle on it but it has been persisting and getting worse. Of course I haven't been to a Dr yet. But I will in the next couple of weeks. In the end she was holding her 'stool' for almost 2 weeks and leaking into her panties several times a day. Eventually children who do this lose the normal urges to poop and this had deffinitely happened. I followed the treatment from the Mayo clinic and bought some suppositories and fed her a steady diet of laxative tea. She has started having the urge to poop in the last couple of days. We are down to one cup of laxitive tea and no suppositories.

So I thought we would do the Master Cleanse. Kaetlyn said she wanted to do it, too. So the three of us girls set out to cleanse our bowels... We had our cup of tea last night and this morning but Rhiannon is struggling with drinking instead of eating. She hasn't drank enough and she is feeling hungry. I don't think she is going to make it. And Kaetlyn says that she doesn't think she will be able to keep going. So that leaves me... I wasn't really in a cleanse mood. And I always feel hungry when I do it and I don't feel energized, either. I feel like I am fasting... But I could probably use a cleanse and now I have all this stuff - for 3 people to do it. That was expensive... What to do...

Well, I drink tons of it - I love it. Kaetlyn and Rhiannon aren't doing it so I let it go. There are so many fresh fruit and veggies right now, I want to eat them. Peaches are my favourite fruit... That's gotta be good for me. I'll do it later, when the harvest is over - after thanksgiving or something.

There's a whole section in my ALL-TIME favourite book (Mother- Daughter Wisdom by Christiane Northrup, you're not REALLY raising daughters without reading it, are you??? hee!) about this issue. It's the chapter called "Mouth and Gut Wisdom" and it talks about encopresis. Here's what she says about bowels, in a nutshell: "If you have a daughter, leave her BMs alone. And leave your child alone as she is moving her bowels. Don't hover. Teach her how to wipe herself properly, help her if she asks or if she "messes up," and then leave her alone." She goes on to say that if you are invasive about monitoring bowel function AT ALL (like even asking if she's had one that day) that your daughter can develop encopresis... I know Zara was having very similar issues and as soon as her mum just ABSOLUTELY let go of needing any influence or control over the issue, it righted itself like a darn miracle... Don't know if any of that's helpful, but I was just reading that chapter the other night so it all came rushing back to share...
Oh, and yes! VERY cute testicles! Good thing humans aren't cute like that or we'd have a real problem. hee hee

okay, one more thing. Christiane also says that often the problem is due to cow's milk allergies. Would be worth a try to completely eliminate dairy for 3 weeks or so??

hey when you do the cleanse again, lemme know and I'll do with you--long distance support! I know a lady who does it for only 24 hrs once a week, and she looks like 15 years younger then her age...AND she claims it eliminated all her cellulite--hello!

I will. I think I am going to stick with drinking a glass with the juice of one lemon with water in the morning (very good for our blood type) and eating vegetarian (mostly)until I'm ready to do the full cleanse in Oct or Nov.

And, that would be my intuitive way of handling BM's and how I have always been. Right now I am feeling guilty because I let it get so bad. It all started with a goopy poop - she got some on her hand and then wanted me to wipe her bum. Which I did a few times and then said it was time for her to do it herself again. So she just stopped pooping but it took me awhile to notice (like a few months). She started in March or maybe even Feb. She just started holding her BM's for longer and longer until she lost the urge to poop. I started noticing in June or so (whenever I first blogged about it) when she started to have poop in her panties 3 or 4 times a day. At first I thought she wasn't wiping properly and then I realized she wasn't pooping. So I got involved and then thought she was back on the right track and let her be and then it was getting really bad (poop in panties several times a day and she was hiding them from me) and I felt I had to get involved. I am worried about her getting IBS or Chrone's Disease. I hope to get uninvolved again soon. But no, I haven't read the book but I would like to. I should probably buy it as it sounds like one I would like own.
